Not sure which permit you need?

Answer 3 quick questions and we'll tell you the fastest legal path.

1. What is the employee's citizenship?

Depending on the employee’s citizenship, qualifications, and the industry, Poland offers several distinct work authorization paths.

Path Who is it for Timeline
Work permit Type A Citizens of India, Philippines, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, etc. 2-8 weeks
EU Blue Card Highly qualified specialists (e.g., IT, Engineering, Management) 1-2 weeks (prep)
Seasonal work permit Agriculture, horticulture, tourism Up to 9 months/year
Single permit Foreigners already legally residing in Poland 3-12 months

[!IMPORTANT] Important Exemption: The simplified “declaration of entrusting work” (oświadczenie) applies only to citizens of Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. Citizens of Asian, African, and Latin American countries must go through the full Type A Work Permit process.

EU Blue Card vs Standard Permit

The EU Blue Card is a specialized temporary residence and work permit designed to attract top global talent.

Core Requirements

  • Qualifications: Higher education degree OR 3–5 years of specialized professional experience (highly relevant for the IT sector).
  • Salary: Minimum salary threshold of at least 150% of the national average in Poland.

Key Benefits

  • Easier and faster process to change employers compared to standard permits.
  • Accelerated path to EU Long-Term Resident status.
  • Simplified procedures for family reunification.

Poland strictly regulates the employment of foreigners. Under the new legislation effective mid-2025, employers and employees must strictly adhere to the following conditions:

  1. Salary Parity: The foreigner’s salary must not be lower than the standard rate for comparable positions held by Polish citizens.
  2. Employer Compliance: The employing entity must be actively registered and up-to-date with all tax obligations and Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) contributions.
  3. Language Rights: Employment contracts must be executed in writing and accompanied by a sworn or standard translation into a language the employee fully understands.
  4. Penalties: Fines for illegal employment (working without a permit, or on different conditions than specified in the permit) now start from 30,000 PLN and can lead to immediate deportation for the foreigner.
